Thing is, I don't learn from lecture. I learn from songs, from reading, and from doing, but not from someone droning words at me. I've fallen asleep at comedy shows (I fell asleep at George Carlin once. Not good). I even fall asleep in plays if they're too static. I need something more than someone speaking, be it visual or musical.

Your result for Howard Gardner's Eight Types of Intelligence Test...

31% Logical, 22% Spatial, 35% Linguistic, 29% Intrapersonal, 39% Interpersonal, 51% Musical, 8% Bodily-Kinesthetic and 31% Naturalistic!

"This area has to do with rhythm, music, and hearing. Those who have a high level of musical-rhythmic intelligence display greater sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones and music. They normally have good pitch and may even have absolute pitch, and are able to sing, play musical instruments, and compose music. Since there is a strong auditory component to this intelligence, those who are strongest in it may learn best via lecture. In addition, they will often use songs or rhythms to learn and memorize information, and may work best with music playing in the background.

Careers which suit those with this intelligence include instrumentalists, singers, conductors, disc-jockeys, and composers." (Wikipedia)

I'm right there with you--I can't follow a lecture unless I am taking notes--I compltely forget what they were talking about two minutes before. Which may work OK for a frenetic comedy show where you just listen and laugh but I could never follow the homily at church, say, and I always had to be taking really good notes in class, I couldn't just sit and listen and then write some stuff down later. It goes in one ear and out the other.

I have to read it to remember it. Or, randomly, I'm very very good at remembering things set to music. Random!

Why is this not surprising at all?

If I read it, I know it. Which, for the new job, is a very big deal...

If there's a dialogue, I'll retain it, but if it's a one-way lecture, forget it.
