And a Friday Five....

The moment I let go of it

1. What did you eat yesterday?

Um. I worked at Sodini's, so a lot of salad fixin's. Also, leftover fried rice (yum), and a bunch of fruit. And coffee.

2. Are you more likely to yell or give the silent treatment?

Yell. I can't do silent treatment - I've got too much going on inside for that. Which sometimes comes back and bites me on the ass, but there you go.

3. Who did you last grieve?

Sigh. Martin, I guess. It's such a complicated, fucked-up situation.

4. What feels good today?

I'm taking care of things. That feels good. The hangover does not, but at least I got to talk to Martin for a long time last night.

5. Friday fill in: Thank you ___ for ___.

Thank you, my friends, for listening and loving me.

Lyrics

I will never forget [livejournal.com profile] smonsterbite calling me from the Lucero concert and holding the phone up as Ben sang this song. I love it, and it never fails to raise a lump in my throat. Just listen, you'll see what I mean.

eta: Cricket says that the disc version feels hollow to her, which I could see. It sounds like he's sitting in an empty room by himself as he's singing, and then there's this lovely, lovely piano and guitar right there - and then there's an overlay effect to the (gorgeous!) piano during the bridges that sounds like wind or an empty space. So I think it works (though I like the live versions best, too). Not to get too metaphysical here, but it's almost like you're hearing the song through the girl in question's ears - the guitar is closest, the piano is a little distant, and then the man who loves you is speaking to you, but you're distant from him, like he (or you) is in a dream. Or perhaps I could be overly wankeriffic because I love this song so much. (I love all of Rebels, Rogues, and Sworn Brothers so much, I could prattle on about each song. But I'll spare y'all my uneducated burblings.)

She Wakes When She Dreams
Lucero

She’s crying herself to sleep every night
'Til her eyes shut and find better times
She wakes when she dreams
Sleeps when she wakes

Now sleep my sweet girl
And dream of better days

Nothing it seems went according to plan
Who are we kidding, there was never a plan
We followed our instincts
In the worst kinds of ways

Now sleep my sweet girl
And dream of better days

She sits at the bar, she smiles and she drinks
She talks the whole night,
Never says what she means
She’ll fight when she’s drunk
We stay outta the way

Now sleep my sweet girl
And dream of better days

She wears a sorrow her beauty can’t hide
I pray she sheds it and sleeps the whole night
She wakes when she dreams
She sleeps when she wakes

Now sleep my sweet girl
And dream of better days
