I forgot to mention that there is male full-frontal nudity in Take Me Out. As in, they actually take showers onstage. Yeah. That's a big portion of the justification for the scramble right now. Also, a good reason why most community and smaller independent theaters will never do the show. Full workings showers onstage? 'Spensive. Also, a lot of theaters (not to mention actors) balk at the full-frontal. Oh, well.

Heh, I was wondering about that, because the thing about pitchers is that they don't exactly have to be buff to be good at their jobs (c.f., David Wells or Curt Schilling).

True, but 1) he has very little tone in his arms and 2) the director wants him super-fit. It's mostly 2 that we're concerned with....

Back in 1993 or 1994, one of Cincy's smaller -- and better, IMO -- theatres put Poor Superman on its schedule. Full frontal male groping, baby. The city, predictably, went apeshit. However, it opened as scheduled and stayed open its full run. (In fact, they may have had to add shows, b/c all the publicity led to it selling out night after night.)

BRILLIANT play, though I didn't actually *need* to see full-frontal male groping.

(Maybe I've worked with too many fringe theatres where "Really? No one's naked in this?" gets asked.)

Heh. We're used to being the island of blue in a sea of red. Nudity in shows isn't even controversial or guaranteed box office anymore.
