Running.

I was angry with myself last week for not running as much as I should have. I took Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off. Not even weight-lifting or yoga. No good. Thursday, I ran a good distance. Friday, I slept (grrrrr).

Saturday, now.

I've been getting bored with my usual routes, so I've been running parts of the marathon course instead. That also helps me to plan ahead for the marathon, so it's a good thing all around. So, Saturday I decided to run miles 7 through 13, and then go north to hook back up with my car. That would make it about 8.5 miles or so, which is where I should be. However, where I should be and where I am are two different things. Not necessarily as far apart as I might think, but still different.

Also? When running a new route, a better mental map might be in order.

In other words, I fucked up. There fuckups were only two, but enough to be an issue.

Fuckup the first: I ended up starting from Zach's apartment, which was a mile away from my original start point. Not an issue, except for the part where I had to walk an extra mile to get back to my car at the end of the run.

Fuckup the second: I went the wrong way around the lake that was the end point for the route I was taking. That added miles, as did my questionable decision to get back to my car via the longer way instead of the more direct way.

So, instead of running 8 miles and traversing a total of 9, I ended up running (and walking) 8.5 and traversing a total of 11. Ooops.

Also? toenail ickiness )

So. New kit, new shoes, and we'll keep going.

Oh, also. I keep hearing that running a marathon is a mind game more than anything else. I'm starting to grok that. There's days when I'm running, and my lungs are okay and my legs feel okay if a bit heavy, and I just want to stop for a bit. I have to continually make pacts with myself to keep going. It's a mind game, oh yes indeed. And some days, I'm not sure that I'm going to win.
