Here's a way to combat the inevitable cabin fever as it settles in across the land - check out Weird and Wonderful Words -- a daily (M-F) e-mail with a word you may never have heard, a weird or wacky word, but always a wonderful word!

Here's an example of the kind of email you'd get:

Nobodaddy
[NOH-boh-dad-ee] a word used by William Blake as a disrespectful name
for God. By extension, used for someone no longer admired. A blend of
nobody and daddy.

You can practice your wierd and wonderful words as you shovel the snow, salt the ice, and swear at stupid drivers on the road. You, too, can get a weird and wonderful word a day delivered right to your e-mail inbox, for the low low price of NOTHING! That's right -- you get this mind/vocabulary/conversation/popularity enhancer absolutely FREE!

Can't beat that with a stick.

*ahem*

Busybusybusybusybusybusybusy. Am tired of being busy. Suppose it's better than not being busy, but am questioning wisdom of this line of htinking.

Right. So. It's warmed up here, which is making me even more anxious to start running regularly again. However, warm + winter = snow, and sometimes it's not quite feasible to battle through it. Case in point. the inch of snow we got last night interfered with my plan to go running after rehearsal (instead of this morning). Fresh snow + darkness + Thursday night drunks = more danger than I'm ever comfortable with. However, I did get my lazy butt up in time to go running this morning, which felt fabulous.

There's a certain camaraderie among early-morning runners that I enjoy. We nod or wave at each other and keep on trucking. It's a semi-social event, rolling out of bed before dawn and going outside to exercise. In the afternoons, people are decompressing for work and grimly determined, wrapped up in their own worlds. At night, I'm one of the very few out. It's a very contemplative time. But in the morning, there's me and my breath and the rest of the world waking up, and everyone else who's ventured out seems to be almost happy about it.

I wish I was more of a morning person, because the feeling of accomplishment is amazing. I normally go from bed to shower to bus to work, so actually doing something productive before I hit work is an event. Still and all, my favorite time to run is at night. It's still and quiet and lovely, with people preparing dinner or readying for a night on the town as I run by.

Today is a better day than the past ones have been. Perhaps because I got to go run. My interview last night went well, but I still don't think I'll get the gig. Big comedies like Moon Over Buffalo aren't my strong suit and I haven't had a chance to work on many of them. It's pretty clear when I talk about my experience that I'm best at the quiet, heartfelt-type dramas. I know I charmed them, though, and I answered the community theater-oriented questions right. So it's all good. Practice for future director interviews. Yes.

Tonight, up to St. Cloud with Z for 72-hour trivia marathon. Tomorrow, leave Z up there & drive home to clean and go to see Blithe Spirit. Sunday, have reading of Closer at noon, with rehearsal of a scene cutting for an anti-V-Day fundraiser to follow. Then, drive back up to St. Cloud to go to trivia award dinner and come back home.

I'll be up in St. Cloud for the two weekends following this one as well. Gah. Then rehearsals for As Bees In Honey Drown begin. GAH! Z has met with the costumer, and I have been informed that one of my costumes will be, in effect, a band of fabric around my top, a band of fabric around my bottom, and chains connecting the two. Erk. I'm quitting drinking as soon as rehearsals start, and I will attempt to hew much more closely to the "work out for 30 minutes every day" plan. Plus ab work. I hate ab work. Yipes.

Okay. That's about it. Have good weekends, all.
