Letting my freak flag fly.....
Jul. 15th, 2004 09:23 amI was never a big fan of My So-Called Life. I might enjoy it more now, but back then I just wanted to smack everybody on the show upside the head, and then smack my friends who kept saying "They're JUST LIKE US!!"
I must be one of the few people who is not actively repulsed by Christina Aguilera. For whatever reason, I don't mind her antics, and it's very amusing to see what look she'll come up with next. The fact that she actually has talent and does something interesting with it doesn't hurt. I'll forgive a lot for talent. Not hatemongering/misogyny/homophobia/spousebeating/etc., but a lot.
I like deconstructing books, but it's just a neat mental trick I do in my head. I don't want to share it with anyone, because then it becomes mindwankery for me. Intellectual masturbation, IOW.
The serial comma is The One True Way.
I'm enjoying the hell out of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack right now. It's just the thing to keep me awake on my long weekend drives.
(FTR, these are all things I'd say on b.org, if I ever caught up in time to make such statements relevant to the conversation. Or, in the case of the MSCL issue, I don't want to interrupt the lurve-fest. The show was treated very unfairly by the network, and I think a lot of people are still very sensitive about that.)

Date: 2004-07-15 07:43 am (UTC)Agreed. Actually, I feel somewhat the same about Wonderfalls: I enjoyed the show, and was sorry to see it dumped, and I do think it was treated just horribly. But as much as I had fun watching the eps I saw, I was never grabbed in that fannish must obsess/discuss/fic/write letters way, as I was with, say Firefly. Am I about to go say so in-thread? Certainly not -- it wouldn't be a useful addition to the discussion, just contrarian peeing-in-people's-Cheerios.
In the case of the serial comma, however, I'm prepared to fight to the death! Go team comma!

Date: 2004-07-15 09:18 am (UTC)GO SERIAL COMMA!
I love Christina Aguilera if only for using the gayboys kissing in her video for "Beautiful". Go Christina!

Date: 2004-07-15 09:49 am (UTC)I'd agree about Wonderfalls. I never quite got the obsession. Some people juggle geese, I guess.

Date: 2004-07-15 08:14 am (UTC)I really disliked Firefly.
While I really liked Wonderfalls, its cancellation does not seem to me to necessitate fan campaigns and Web sites. If it was cancelled after 4 episodes, it's dead, people.
I have no opinion on Christina Aguilera, other than, whenever people have clued me in to the fact that that's who was on the radio, she does have one hell of a set of pipes.
I *can* deconstruct books, but I generally can't be arsed to do so.
There is no other way than the Serial Comma.
I have spoken. So shall it be....

Date: 2004-07-15 09:53 am (UTC)HERETIC!!@! Okay, I can see why. But it pinged me in a way Wonderfalls never did.
I think you'd like some of Christina's songs. I'll have to burn you some. YEs.

Date: 2004-07-15 08:35 am (UTC)I love this word. Lovelovelove. Let's see:
MSCL I liked very much, but remember, I was watching from the perspective of a parent, not a teenager. Different gestalt entirely, trust me.
I have no opinion of Christina Aguilera - I know who she is, but that's all I know about her. I am sadly deficient in pop culture stuff that doesn't immediately grab me.
I had no Firefly love at all. I thought Wonderfalls was sweet and deserved better, but I wasn't likely to get wildly hooked on it. I just miss Joss or any iteration thereof on the tube.
I use the serial comma, but I am very fluid about its use. Me and the absolutes thing, you know? I wear the grammar; it does not wear me.

I'll believe that. And I might quite like it now. At the time, though? Meh.

Date: 2004-07-15 04:40 pm (UTC)MY SISTAH! I disliked MSCL for the same reasons I disliked Sex and the City -- yes, there are real people like that, but they're the real people I try to avoid. (When Claire Danes was cast as Beth in Little Women, all I could picture was her lying in bed whining "Jo? Dying sucks.")
