Running, and other errata

I've resurrected
nanookracing, because I don't seem able to keep a paper running log.
I have to keep reminding myself that slow mileage increases are best right now, that too far too fast will only result in injury. Not so easy to do when I'm ready and raring to go, or when I'm seeing dramatic improvements in my body's health as a result of starting my running program again. I honestly think that the taper before the marathon is harder on me than the post-marathon aftermath. During taper, I gain a few pounds and I don't get to run or even do my usual amount of yoga. The enforced inactivity does not help me think of myself as an athlete. During aftermath, I have the resumption of a regular schedule to look forward to, and that seems to stave off any letdown.
I have to say - I do not understand early-morning runners who dress entirely in dark clothing and then do not wear any sort of reflective gear. It makes no sense, and is patently unsafe. I almost smacked into two different people this morning. RUNNERS! The shiny stuff on your shoes is not enough to keep you safe! If I can't see you that well, what about the cars that are going by right next to us?!? Reflective gear is not that expensive! Also? If you have or run with a black dog? Get a reflective leash and/or collar. Actually, do that if you run with any dog. Please.
Okay, I'm done.
bigpenguin and I saw Team America: World Police yesterday. It was funny, but I'm glad that we only paid matinee price for it. It definitely wasn't as funny as South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, though it does feature very disturbing puppet sex. I have to seriously wonder how bad that scene was if they had to send it to the ratings board eight times before the movie could get an 'R' rating.
We get to go see Stage Beauty on Wednesday! I'm quite hopeful. Jeffrey Hatcher is a friend and a brilliant writer, so we know the script will be good.
Speaking of good scripts, we have a reading on Tuesday for Ari Hoptman's new play about Charles Guiteau, the man who assassinated James Garfield. It should be interesting, at the very least.
edit: Oh yes, I also got a fluffy bright red scarf to wear with my big black leather coat. I lurve it.
