Dalton
Which Buffy vampire are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
Change one answer and I'm Spike. Der.
I'm thisclose to a homicidal rage this morning. Bloody Outlook "upgrade". Upgrade, my ass. Losing my preferences completely and making it impossible for any of my friends to email me is not an upgrade in my book.. Cow-orkers that won't. stop. talking. politics. aren't helping at all.
I was thinking about class issues and the recent discussion that happened over at b.org. I didn't participate, because my class issues are skewed all to hell, probably because of where I grew up. My class issues do not arise out of how much money one does or does not have - to a point. The rich are very different from you and I, after all.
That train of thought started when I was reminded of exactly how hard it is to eat healthfully when you're on an incredibly tight budget. Look at your basic store brand wheat bread, which is normally the only kind of bread paid for by food stamps while also being the only loaf that you can get for under a buck. Look at the ingredients. I'll bet you anything that high fructose corn syrup is the second or third ingredient on the list. I'll bet you that the dietary fiber is less than 1 gram. I'll bet you that the actual nutritional value of said "wheat bread" is worse than that bugaboo of the bakery aisle - Wonder Bread.
I remember the winter that my dad moved out of the house. I was 15, and my mother just wanted things to be over and done with, so she didn't demand alimony. That turned out to be a mistake. We spent a winter in Alaska trying to figure out where the money for the propane, for the water, for the electricity would be coming from. I've lived most of the rest of my life in close proximity to that knife's edge. I've always had a place to live, and I've always had a safety net. I'm lucky. I've got nothing to give back right now, but I plan to. Someday.
I told you this was disjointed and memememe.
Anyway. I'm tired, and diffusedly angry. Grrr. Aaargh.

Date: 2003-10-09 11:25 am (UTC)Also, Dalton was my favourite vampire minion on Buffy. I missed him for quite a while.
Are said cow-orkers talking about Gov. Schatzi? Because I'm willing to come out there right now and put a stop to it ...
