Ran the Get In Gear 10K yesterday, It was a great day for running - cool, clear, with just a vague hint of rain to come. The 7+ mile bike ride home after the race wasn't fun, as the wind had picked up by that point and I hadn't brought heavier layers. Dumb me.

Not shabby. Just over an hour, and under 10 minute pace. Problem was, I walked often.
Mistakes:
1. Didn't eat enough day before or morning of. Thought I had, but I didn't.
2. Didn't carry water or energy gel.
3. I fucked up, plainly. I heard my time at Mile 1 (11:30), and kicked it up three more notches than I should have. For a while there, I was running at about a 9-minute pace. I managed to sustain it for about 2.5 miles, and then the lack of fuel kicked in.
Good things:
1. Learned a lot from my mistakes.
2. It's fired me up for the season.
3. I now know that I can easily run a 9-minute pace, and I know that it's possible for me to run a marathon in under 4 hours. It's not probable this season, but I can do it.
Other things:
1. I need different shoes. The Mizunos aren't cutting it; the arch support is too far forward and I'm still rolling back out on my ankles. They're fine for training, but I'll need something better for long runs and racing.
2. I will need a trainer at some point. There's still a lot of improvement I can do on my own, but I'm going to need to join a club or go to a trainer if I ever want to run Boston. And I want to run Boston.
3. I love racing. I love the group/individual effort.
4. I need to figure out my fucking diet. It's starting to frustrate me.
So. Next race: MDRA Mississippi 10-Miler, May 30. Whee!!!
