Why is this news? Living in the suburbs can make you sick. I could have told you that. I've subjected Z to my rants about sidewalk-less towns and lack of walkable facilities many times. Americans eat up land and resources at an astonishing speed, and then wonder why our country has indigestion. Hmmmph.

6 days until the marathon. Oy. Naturally, I am sick. Luckily, it seems to be confining itself to my head and not migrating downwards to my lungs. I can cope with a stuffy nose.

I have a post-marathon workout plan now. It feels good. I'm planning to run 4 - 7 miles per day four out of five weekdays, and then a long run of 9 - 16 miles on Saturdays. There's weightlifting and yoga too, but sort of catch as catch can. I want to lift three days per week and use yoga as my post-run cooldown. All of this will be made much easier if Z & I get a treadmill. We're going to go shopping for one this week. Our first major purchase as a married couple! Awwwww....

We closed Picasso yesterday. I'm very happy to put this show to bed. Two three-week runs, one of them an hour and a half away, and I'm done. It was a lot of fun, though. I was working with a fantastic cast and crew.

I'm still nervous about the marathon, even though there's very little I can do now. Sigh.

They don't seem to be considering the mental health advantages of not living in a place where one is constantly elbow to elbow with other people, and where one can play the stereo loud at all hours of the night without having someone else pounding on the ceiling. And for what it's worth, there seem to be plenty of fat people in the city, too.

It's far from a comprehensive study, true. And they were careful to point out that it was only physical health, that location seemed to not have such an effect on mental health.

I just wish *all* communities were planned better. It kills me when I see an abandoned small-town downtown. Our settlements tend not to have a center, or are tending to lose them.

Well, that's one extreme to another. Check out the Smart Growth principles for more info.

It's funny. As I lived in England, I can never complain about America having a massive population density again. I mean in the US we have an average of 7 people per square mile. In England it is 200. And when I moved to Minneapolis...it feels vacant. Like a small town. Nowhere as congested or cramped or crammed with humanity as even a small british town.
