I am VASTLY amused by the Italian pop [livejournal.com profile] mfnlaw sent me. I'm sure the lyrics are amazingly earnest, but I can't tell! Because I don't speak Italian! Instead, I can just listen to the emoting and whatnot and giggle helplessly. But! I can also impress the adorable Italian boys in my neighborhood by correctly identifying the music they're playing. So it's a win-win. (Darling sorella [livejournal.com profile] mfnlaw, I am not trying to mock your music. Honest. I do love it. It just makes me giggle, as does my neighborhood most of the time.)

Certain of them are also very easy on the eyes. (Okay, how much do I love that hamster eating the wee mic picture that came up on the Google search? SO MUCH.) But. Nek-the-Italian-singer? Quite dishy.

Now I shall contemplate how sexy I find Shooter Jenning's voice. Yum.

We mock what we love. I giggle when I listen to it too, because you're right, it is so earnest. They're just so...Italian. I find it more difficult to listen to the harder Italian rock because it doesn't sound right. The language doesn't lend itself to double bass drums and Rob Zombie-style growling. The sonics don't have the hard edge that English or German does. And Christ almighty, don't get me started on Italian rap. It's wrong like a wrong thing that went evil.

So my Italian music is the flavor of bubblegum, and I've got more if you want it. :) I'm perfectly content getting more substance in English. It's less hurty to my ears.

Nek is quite dishy. Now that's some substance. And a glorious "Amen!" to the husky sexiness of Shooter Jenning's voice, though his looks don't do a damn thing for me.

They're just so...Italian.

Exactly it.

Side note: I would have paid such good money for you to be here this past weekend, especially when Kristin & I went to get coffee at Cafe Roma. It was like the movie director had said, "Okay guys, the girls are coming in now. Be as massively stereotypically Italian as you can! Speak loudly! Gesticulate! Act as if you're about to kill the other person, and then laugh and kiss them on both cheeks!" It was HILARIOUS.
