Damn, I love geekiness.

Crude Futures (via Defamer) notices the similarities between Starbucks and The Life Aquatic

And kottke.org goes into font detail

Personally, I think Futura is one of the prettiest fonts out there.

I am a TOTAL font geek. Chatty!co-worker and I can converse for hours about which font might be better to use when we're designing a book. Font is one of those "invisible" design elements -- people don't really notice it (well, some do), and yet it contributes to the overall visual impact of an ad/book/sign. I'd bet that most people couldn't put their finger on it, and say "Oh, the choice of Copperplate font really give that store's sign an air of dignity," but if you asked them their impression of the store's exterior, "dignified" would be in the description.

Or maybe I think about this too much....

It's a pretty font and all, but it's not worth paying $25.

Futura was what they used in Sassy magazine. I think it was the first time I ever noticed a font outside of places were you are supposed to notice.
